Meghalaya Experiences
Living Root Bridges
The more you dive deeper into the wilderness the more you understand its connection as you trek through the living root bridges that join one village to the other from centuries ago. The practice of making a living root bridge is one of the finest examples of bio- engineering, selfless and sustainable thinking. This can be said from the fact that the people who start building these bridges across the streams and rivers never get to use the bridge in their lifetime owing to the time it takes for the roots to form into a bridge strong enough to be walked on.
Trek on the root bridges, that prove to be stronger than wooden and metal bridges and last the locals for generations together. The Nongriat village in Sohra also boasts a
double decker root bridge.
This is a bio-engineering marvel indeed!
Caving
Meghalaya is infamous for its extensive underground maze-like cave system. It boasts some of the longest and deepest caves in the Indian subcontinent. Caves are a classic example of the geographic evolution of our planet. Laden with stalactite and stalagmites where every bend in the cave boats off a unique art piece formed by water droplets over millions of years.
Exploring these underground ecosystems not only offers a glimpse into the wonders of evolution but also highlights the interconnectedness of life and the remarkable ability of organisms to adapt to even the harshest conditions. The Krem Liat Prah is one such cave, considered the longest sandstone cave in the world. Embark on a journey through these caves and also try your hand at camping inside the cave.
Waterfall Exploration
Meghalaya, one of the wettest places on earth, is notorious for offering breathtaking views of naturally forming waterfalls and pools.
On a road trip through the country side, every twist and turn unfurls misty hills, valleys, shimmering lakes and myriad waterfalls, that keep you gaped in awe. From the highest plunge waterfall in India, to some of the most serene, cascading, tiered waterfalls, Meghalaya has a plethora of water bodies, all big and small.
Several waterfalls are accessible only after a short trek/hike and a plunge in the cool, crystal water pool is the most refreshing feeling!
